Hard is to harder, as difficult is to_____?

I'm in quite a predicament here; I can't seem to find a synonym for the word "harder," and the only reciprocal I can concoct is "more difficult" or "more [synonym for difficult]". So if it's any trouble, can someone please give me suggestions?
