Well, Phuket seems relatively protected, but, the scale & frequency of earthquakes (causing tsunamis) are increasing, so, yes the area could be hit at some time. Maybe the extraction of oil & other 'resources' is causing a natural re-balancing of the earths inner forces, so, who can tell?.
